Pergamum was one of the most beautiful cities of the ancient world. Its architects and sculptors were amongst the finest in the Hellenistic world. The majestic acropolis looms behind the modern town. The places to be visited are Pergamum Acropolis with Temple of Trajan, Hellenistic Barracks, Library, Temple of Athena, Theatre and the Altar of Zeus; Asclepion, one of the most famous shrines and therapeutic centers in the ancient world; Pass by Red Courtyard, originally served as Temple of Serapis but later symbolized one of the Seven Churches of Anatolia. Drive back to Izmir or Kusadasi (L).
